Everyone has heard of the hedge maze at Hampton Court Palace. But did you know there is a maze nestled within Crystal Palace Park?

Unlike Hampton Court, Crystal Palace lies off the beaten track. Meaning it's hassle free and an escape from run of the mill tourist attractions. And the best part is that it's free and open for everyone!

With an incredible diameter of 160 feet, the maze is one of the largest in the country. Throughout its network of pathways, you'll find towering hedgerows and plenty of diversions. If you end up taking a wrong turn then don't worry, dotted around the maze are handy landmarks to help you get back on track.

I found the circular labyrinth is easy and should take you 30-40 minutes to complete. While still fun, there should be smooth sailing for both children and adults.

At the center is your goal, a nicely planted round garden area. There are a number of benches for early escapees to bask in the sun and wait for others to catch up. On the floor you'll see a mural of the maze itself. Here you can retrace your steps and see just how you worked your way out.

In short, the answer is yes! If you ask me, Crystal Palace Hedge Maze is one of the most fun, free things to do in London. Despite it being small, there is more entertainment close by. This includes a petting farm, paddle boats, a dinosaur park and Crystal Palace park itself! So why not make an adventure of it to create a big day out!?

Both the park and the maze are best enjoyed on a hot, sunny day. After you escape the maze there will be plenty of good spots for relax and rewind with a nice, cold ice cream. Nothing beats the good old British summertime eh!?.
