Surely it must be official now? London has got to be the best city for silver screen experiences. It seems we have quirky picture houses coming out of our ears in this town! From the magnificence of Secret Cinema, to the plush comforts of Everyman, Canery Wharf. London is bursting with inventive ways to watch your fave flicks.

One of the most enjoyable experiences can be found at Backyard Cinema. This place adds a little extra spice into your night at the pictures.

Rather then screening a film as itself, the theatre is tailor fitted to immerse you into the experience.

The interior is amazingly decorated to give you an added sense of adventure. Just waking to your seats alone will make you feel as though you're in an epic story. And this all happens before the on-screen action starts.

The venue and theme changes after a good number of screenings. So you could find yourself watching Jurassic Park in a tropical jungle, or watching The Beach... On a make shift beach! Speaking of beaches, the current theme is "LA Nights" and can be found in Camden.

A key example of themes is when I visted Mission to Mars. Back in 2018, the arena was made to look like a spaceship. This blended beautifully with the sci-fi movies being shown.

Remember in Total Recall how the journey to Mars was a was similar passing through an airport? Well it was a bit like that. Before "boarding", we were directed through customs and were given "flight safety" instructions. The intergalactic cabin crew never broke character. "Passengers" were then carted into an elevator, complete with atmospheric lighting. These extra details were mind blowing and show just how accurate the organisers want the experience to be. No stone was left unturned.

You bet it is! Even if you sampled one theme, it's worth going back for more.

The venue was complete with a bar and multiple showings each day. And the seats... 'comfy' barely even does it justice. Depending on the screening, you'll be sat in an almost vertical position. If Christmas is your thing, Backyard Cinema has appeard at both Winter Wonderland and WinterVille.
